Preaching to the deaf in Bangkok

I was able to go in the ministry with the sign language group in Bangkok Saturday morning. A worked with a Japanese sister named Iya. We were doing search work. And since I speak no Thai, my friend gave me a card to present to the ones I met asking if they knew of any deaf. The second picture is of Julie and a young deaf girl she met last week. Julie is the sister we stayed with in Bangkok. The deaf girl was a hoot-made me miss some of my former Bible students in Ecuador.

  1. How cute! So, where you able to communicate with the deaf girl? Do they have their own sign? Are these too many questions??

  3. Not too many questions Marci. No worries. They do have their own sign here. A lot is similar to ASL but there are some signs different. I could do basic communication with the deaf girl. We were eating together so mainly I was just entertaining her during the meal being silly (who, me?) I'm suppose to be signing 2 kingdom songs for the meeting tomorrow so I'll let you know how that goes. I LOVE their sign for thank you. Its the thai greeting with the palms together, thumbs in toward you, fingers by the lips. And then they open both hands outwards with palms facing forward. Very pretty :)

  4. And I also forgot to mention Marci that the Japanese sister I worked with and a few other Japanese in the Bangkok sign group knew who Satoshi and Harumi are. As soon as I said "Takami" is their last name they all smiled 'Yes, yes, takami". pretty cool. I'll have to somehow let them know.
